I hope your dissertation went well. The cultural map sounds interesting. We have some mapping projects and it would be good to include yours. Would it be possible to have a link to (or a copy of) your work? Or is it on the Transition Network site already?

To join activities, do take a look at the ‘Get Involved’ section and consider signing up for news so you can find out what is going on. There are several ways depending on what you prefer – the newsletter, the active-group mailing list or following with Facebook or Twitter. (Of maybe you have done one of these already?)

To sign up, just send an email to ttb-active+subscribe@googlegroups.com. You will then receive emails that are sent to the group and will be able to send to the group yourself. Instructions on how to do this will be sent to you with your acknowledgement email.

To be able to look at the discussions online you need to go to the Google Groups homepage and sign in. You need to have a Google account – you may have this already if you have used any other Google application like Google Docs, Google Calendar or to create your own Google Map. If you do not have this, then, when you try to sign up for Google Groups, it will say ‘You do not have a Google Account’, or something like that. To have a Google account does NOT mean that you need a google email. You simply enter your own email address and a password.

I haven’t heard anything about a local straw bale building project, but I do know of a group called Concrete Jungle Earthship who want to build (obviously) an Earthship, probably in Southwark: http://www.c-j-e.co.uk/

Might not be relevant, but possibly they would know about the straw bale project if there is one, so he could try getting in touch with them. Unless someone else here knows about the straw bales.
