Being connected to the grid, we take electricity for granted. Most of us consume electricity without considering where it came from, how it was produced or the true cost of producing energy. We therefore consume way more than is necessary. By taking control of our own energy production, we can learn how to use energy more efficiently.
This workshop aims to show you the fundamentals of making solar photovoltaic (PV) panels to generate your own electricity. You will learn all you need to know to build a small or large solar panel for a fraction of the cost of buying one.
What will be covered
- Why build your own?
- How to source the materials (broken panels, frames, sealants, etc)
- Understanding the components and the different configurations
- Batteries, charge controllers, diodes and inverters
- Hands-on experience of building a solar PV panel
- Weatherproofing
Please note – these systems are not eligible for feed-in tariffs.
Cost
£60 full or £40 concessions
