This is for group organizers – first contact us for the login and password. Otherwise, if you would like any group to tweet something, please let them know.
First go to http://twitter.com/#!/TTBrixton or click on the blue bird button on the right hand side of our website
Login with the email and password details you have been given. Then look for the new tweet icon – a white outline of a box with a blue pencil in it – it is towards the right at the top.
Click on that and the tweet window opens. You get 140 characters.
If you want to add a link to a webpage, that reduces your available characters a lot, especially if it is a long link. To get round this there is a service which will produce a short version of your link that will work just the same as your long one. To do this, go to this go to
Enter your long link and click on ‘Shorten’ and it will give you a shorter version. This service is described as a ‘Simple Url Shortener’. So you can google this if you need to find it again.
Note also that all posts on the website are automatically tweeted, so that is another way to tweet – put up a post! Then it is good if you put the title and first sentence together and see where you are at about 110 characters. That is about the amount that it tweets as it puts that and then creates its own short link back to your website post.
I love having the tweets come to my phone automatically – even if you have an old phone this still works. Just text ‘follow TTB_Food’ to 8644 and you will get them (If your network is Vodaphone, Orange, 3 or O2). Do this before you do your tweet and then you will get your own tweet!
More instructions on how to receive tweets on your mobile are in my post (under Groups -> Web Development -> Support) http://www.transitiontownbrixton.org/2011/05/tweets-on-your-mobile/
