Velocal Pedal Powered Delivery Service gets funding

Velocal electric assist pedal vanFunding of £13,900 has been secured to set up a cycle based delivery service for Brixton entitled Velocal. TTB working with partners Cycooldelic Revolution and Lambeth. We will be working with B£ and as many Brixton traders as we can. Many local traders relied on bulk purchase customers to stay in business and have been severely hit by the lack of parking in Brixton and the destruction of Brixton’s multi-storey car park in Popes Road. The idea for this service was partly to enable local people to come shopping in Brixton without their cars.

It will offer a variety of local delivery services, initially in a 2 mile radius of Brixton. The full range and exact delivery model will be worked out over the coming weeks with extensive market research on the ground in Brixton. But we aim to offer:

  • bulky shopping deliveries from local Brixton traders, helping them compete with supermarket services like Ocado and Tesco.
  • business to business trading
  • a local courier service
  • regular deliveries and collections

In the longer run hope to offer a degree of internet shopping from Brixton’s local businesses.

The current aim is for a launch of a pilot service in mid May.

The steering group met first on Tuesday 5 April and is looking for expertise to help this burgeoning social enterprise prosper. If you would like to be part of this in any capacity including as a customer or a participating business please email Jimmy at Cycooldelic Revolution and/or leave a comment below.
