WEEK 1: INTRODUCTION; WHAT DO YOU WANT TO GROW -IS IT VIABLE? BRIEF EXPLANATION OF DIFFERENT CROP SEASONS IN UK AND WHAT IS NEEDED FOR SUCCESS,SPECIAL NEEDS FOR SUCCESS IN CONTAINERS. WHERE TO SOURCE ORGANIC SUPPLIES. LIST OF REQUIREMENTS FOR FUTURE CLASSES.
WEEK 2:BASIC SOIL SCIENCE, ADVANTAGES OF GROWING IN CONTAINERS, WHY SOME PLANTS CAN BE GROWN TOGETHER AND WHY OTHERS ARE DIFFICULT. DIFFERENT VEG VARIETIES-PROS AND CONS, BASIC SOWING TECHNIQUES. WHATS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PRICKING OUT, POTTING ON AND TRANSPLANTING?
WEEK 3:GROW YOUR OWN PESTO SAUCE. DIFFERENT BASIL TYPES-WHATS TYPES ARE MOST SUITABLE. VARIOUS TYPES SHOWN TO STUDENTS- PRACTICAL DEMONSTRATION OF SOWING, PRICKING OUT BASIL. PREFERRED GROWING CONDITIONS. RECIPE HANDED OUT FOR HOMEMADE PESTO.
WEEK 4: GROW YOUR OWN RATATOUILLE- SOWING COURGETTES, POTTING ON PEPPERS, AND TOMATOES, TRANSPLANTING BASIL. GROWING CONDITIONS REQUIRED FOR EACH PLANT.
WEEK 5: PEAS & BEANS- GOODBYE BIRDS-EYE! DIFFERENT TYPES OF BEANS AND PEAS AND DIFFERENT VARIETIES. SOWING DEMONSTRATION.
WEEK 6: ONGOING CARE FOR PLANTS. Q & A SESSION. INFORMATION ON PRESERVING CROPS GROWN DURING COURSE.
