It is hoped that a feral swarm will make these their new home in April. Also a modular series of natural beekeeping courses are being organized.
This is the update we received:
Brixton Natural Beekeeping – Brixton Natural Beekeepers are buzzing with excitement. Our first warre hives – kindly loaned to us for a year – are about to be sited in a community garden in Ruskin Park, baited and ready (fingers crossed!) for a feral swarm to make it their new home in April. Meanwhile, we’re planning to build another hive from scratch as soon as we’ve sourced suitable timber. And we’re busy finalising a series of modular natural beekeeping courses, both to help us novices through our first year, and to train anyone else who’s interested in this fascinating and environmentally-vital past-time. ** I looked up ‘warre hive’ as I hadn’t heard of it before:
The Warre Hive (also known as the People’s Hive) was developed in France by Emile Warré (1876?-1951). Warré developed the People’s Hive after experimenting with over 350 hives of various designs and types. It was his goal to find a hive system that was simple, natural, economical, and bee-friendly. ”http://thebeespace.net/warre-hive/
