TTB has had the Community Shop and office for since December 2009. (To help please sign up here). They have been an invaluable asset and have brought us much more in opportunities than they have cost us. We conclude that we need premises. But what kind and where? TTB/Remade in Brixton working with the Council have identified a site for the Brixton Re-use Centre and funding has been applied for. But we need a centre to facilitate all aspects of Transition in Brixton.
TTB Transition Centre planning meeting
Thursday 18 November, 7- 9:30pm
TTB Community Shop, 6 Granville Arcade (Brixton Village) off Coldharbour Lane, SW9 8PR
We had a brilliant first meeting on 21 October. Please find results and minutes on the Forum. Just log on and take part in the discussion. Come and contribute your vision for a Transition Centre and plan to make it real.
To date our premises have provided:
a contact point for the general public
a shop window for our Vision and for practical solutions
a connecting facility, linking people to projects and facilitating opportunities
a selling point for books, films and practical transition materials like draught busting kit.
an office for TTB, Brixton Pound, Remade in Brixton and other TTB Groups
a resource centre including a library of Transition books and films, events materials, tools,
a meeting space
In addition Remade in Brixton and Hannah Lewis have had the Remade Work-shop and the Brixton Skill Share Shop for 3 months each providing an amazing programme of workshops and selling refashioned items.
Central location with a real buzz, community and Brixton identity.
it costs us £393.50 pcm and after October we will no longer share the rent and be liable for the full £789.
we have not been able to earn the rent.
it is not open late evening or Sundays at present
it is cold in winter, a broken window.
it needs lots of work to make it habitable and really civilised
not really a training/workshop space
no phone line
