Remade in Brixton meeting
Thurs 9 July, 7pm @ the Ritzy cinema cafe (upstairs)
(a change from our usual venue of the Trinity, as they have a pub quiz on Thursdays… and yes, the Ritzy do serve beer
This is to focus firstly on preparations for the LAMBETH COUNTRY SHOW (18-19 July) where we have been invited to be part of two of Lambeth’s marquees – Better Neighbourhoods (organised by the Sustainability department) and Recycling (organised by the Waste department). If you’d like to be involved in getting together information, displays and activities for our stall(s), please come along.
Other items for the agenda include:
• We’ve received £250 from TTB towards leaflets / sticker campaign – how can we use this most effectively? e.g. window stickers with a Remade in Brixton brand for all Brixton shops that offer reused goods + repair services; instruction leaflets on making use of different types of waste…
• Effective group communication – at the moment it’s mostly one-way communication from me – how can we create ways of collaborating more effectively so that Remade in Brixton is really owned by the whole group and its agenda is set collectively? (e.g. use the Project Dirt group more actively / create an email group or forum)
• Young Enterprise – during Global Entrepreneurship Week (November) groups of young people will be invited to have a market stall for a day. Lambeth is keen for this to have a green element and has invited us to collaborate. I’m going to a meeting about this on Thursday afternoon so can update after that!
• Links with Lambeth Waste – Stephen Edwards and I recently met with Phil O’Keeffe, Lambeth’s new Waste Development Officer and he is keen to support Remade in Brixton, how can we best use this connection?
• Industrial Ecology Project – update from Stephen.
• Sustainable Communities Act – “Waste to Wealth” proposal submitted to Lambeth under the Sustainable Communities Act.
• “Usefulness Centre” – scope for combining a remaking + reskilling centre with the new Green Man Employment Hub and / or the People’s Supermarket?
We may not have time to cover all of that, so we’ll prioritise at the beginning of the meeting and will definitely have another one soon! Hope you can make it.
